The 179D tax deduction is a U.S. federal tax incentive allowing commercial building owners, design-build contractors, architects, engineers, including owners of government buildings, to claim a tax deduction for energy-efficient improvements. Eligible properties include privately-owned commercial buildings, government buildings, tax-exempt entities and multifamily properties (four stories or more). Qualifying upgrades include energy-efficient HVAC systems, lighting, and building envelope enhancements, promoting sustainable construction practices and reducing energy consumption while providing significant tax savings.
The 45L tax credit is a U.S. federal incentive offering up to a $5,000 per unit credit for energy-efficient residential properties. Eligible properties include new or substantially reconstructed single-family homes, multifamily properties (three stories or less), and manufactured homes. To qualify, units must meet specific energy-saving requirements, such as EPA Energy Star certification or DOE Zero Energy Ready Home certification.
